Singapore and stuff

August 19th, 2005

If you’ve read the last entry, you’ll know that I went to Singapore. That trip proved to be quite the culinary expedition. Never in my life had I tasted sting ray, drank (and fell in love with) sugarcane juice or seen/eaten SHRIMP this BIG! I was also delighted to see that the 3rd instalment in the “Learn to Hip Hop” DVD series was out and available in stores! Check it out…

By a strange twist of fate, it turned out that Shortkut was out there at the same time as me. And actually Craze went there the day that I left… Jeez Louise, so much scratching. Dem nah ready. I didn’t see Craze though.

I thought I was simply flying home from Singapore but I learnt at the last minute that I had to go to LA for a filmed performance with Kanye for the E! Network. Shout out to DJ Revolution, who was DJing that party. Finally I flew home the next day, although I was only gonna be there for less than 2 days before the next adventure. The night of my arrival, though, I was scheduled to perform at the opening night of the Under Pressure festival. For those who don’t know, Under Pressure is one of the biggest graffiti and hip hop festivals around. This year is their 10th anniversary. That festival is also one of the first places I’ve ever performed (at the end of my DVD trailer, when you see me scratching and I look 8 — I was actually 14 — that was at Under Pressure). Anyhoo, I was sick by the time I got home, so I reluctantly had to cancel that gig. I apologize to anyone in Montreal who went out to see that show. I think the aforementioned adventurous eating might have had something to do with it…

By the way Audio Research is releasing a Canadian hip hop compilation in association with Under Pressure, which will come with a commemorative DVD. More info coming soon on the AR site.

So all this was on Wednesday. On Friday I flew to New York to play at the Knitting Factory, alongside my dog DJ Ayres and British grime mainstays Wiley and the Roll Deep Crew. The show was crazy, and I finally got to showcase some of my newer routines to the New York kinfolk.
