MySpace, Japan, and SIAM tour
Alright, that’s it. I had to do it. I’m sorry, I had to do it. I tried to hold off for as long as I could. But then when Illseed got on, I had to get on. Sure I don’t know Illseed but I’m a faithful Allhiphop reader, and I relate to the guy. So… I got on MySpace. It’s been about 3 weeks now so some of yall probably found me already. But if you haven’t… I’m at www.myspace.com/djatrak. You’ll see, the moose is there with me, holding me down.
Now that I got that out of the way… back to tour stories. Last time I wrote I was just getting into Japan for the last couple of shows of the Kanye tour.
Those Japan shows were awesome. First we played in Yokohama, and Pharrell came out to that one. It was his birthday.
Then we played Tokyo and it was the livest, wildest crowd I’ve ever seen in Japan. And then my Japanese distributor had me do an intensive full day of interviews — my favorite was for this magazine that has a section called How To Hip Hop (volume 2). They were making a cartoon strip of me giving a DJ tutorial, so I had to make exaggerated facial expressions while plugging in my headphones and pulling records out of my bag, and they were going to add bubbles with Japanese text coming out of my mouth. Priceless. I found some great hats in Japan too, but for the first time I didn’t buy sneakers out there.
From Japan we went to Hawaii, but I was only there for one day. Great show, I just wish I would have had more time to chill because by the time I got home the next day I was completely deceased. Looking back, this overseas leg of the Touch the Sky tour was my favorite Kanye tour. We were never bored, it never felt like the same show over and over. We kept hopping from one continent to the next, changing environments, and we had fun the whole time. A week later I went to Toronto, where we did a concert for the launch of MTV Canada. I stayed an extra day to do a Canadian press blitz for the DVD. 13 interviews in one day, to be exact. That was intense. But it was cool, I was on Much Music’s equivalent to TRL, Much On Demand. Made me feel like a teen icon. Almost. And then from there I went to New York to start preparing for the Sunglasses Is A Must Tour with The Rub. While I was there I hosted my homie Roxy’s birthday party. Hosting doesn’t mean DJing. It just meant I had to be there, I think. Check out pics from that party www.lastnightsparty.com
Now, we’ve got some magazine sponsors for this tour. In the US it’s The Fader and in Canada it’s Dose magazine. And both have asked us to keep a diary on their websites multiple times a week. We’ve already started, so I will simply direct you to those sites to get the juicy lowdown on our exhilarating extravaganza. Check out the first installments:
I linked up with my homie Kiser to make some tour t-shirts. Of course we’re selling them at the shows, and Turntable Lab also picked up a couple. I brought some to Kanye when we did Letterman on Monday (read the Dose diary!!), and then the next day I found out that he wore one on TRL with Tom Cruise. That’s what I’m talking about! More info on my MySpace page…
So basically, my inter-friends, you should check up on the Fader and Dose diaries regularly because they will be updated more often than this baby. But there is one thing I still wanted to say on my own site: I wanted to thank everyone that was involved with the New York show, from the sponsors to the talent to the friends and fans that came out. That show was particularly special to me. Peep the pics here.
And finally, check the tour dates section because a few of the venues have changed, like San Francisco for example. Again in all honesty, the upcoming shows section on my MySpace page gets updated much more regularly than this one (since I can update it myself), so that’s the one you should be keeping up with. And on that note, gangsters and gentlemen, I bid you farewell with the usual offering of quirky photographic snapshots. Toodaloo.
