As you may know I DJ’ed the mtvU Woodies awards recently. I also presented the “Left Field” category with Kid Sister… and Chromeo won!

They sent me some clips. Here we are announcing…

Tracklisting for my BBC Essential Mix

November 25th, 2008

As mentioned in last week’s Around the World post, I did BBC’s Essential Mix on November 14th live from Bournemouth, UK with Erol Alkan. They streamed it on their site for a week but of course there are many rips lurking around the webosphere, including this one

I did the first hour, Erol did the 2nd. Here’s my tracklisitng – after the jump…

Go pick up Kanye’s album

November 24th, 2008

808s & Heartbreak just came out today. Make sure you pick it up!

I worked on that song “Robocop”, I’ll tell you more about it soon… But for now, enjoy this video of me and the dude talking about our beards. This was filmed before my stay in Paris… My beard was oh-so-young back then. (Cue reminiscing harp sound)

As posted on the fab Fader blog.

When I wrote last Monday, it was the last day of my 6 week stay in Paris. On that evening I went to have dinner at Guy-Man’s crib. Of course I don’t have any pics… Duh, who has pictures of Daft Punk? It was ill though, and pardon my selfishness but I don’t even really feel little telling stories. I’m too much of a fan, I gotta keep this one in my little mental cabinet. Dude is mad cool and he remembers seeing me DJ at WMC in 1998 when I was 16.

New site! Sneaker give-away! Holy smokes!

November 24th, 2008

Lately, even my mom’s been asking me where she should go to read my blogs. It seems like I’ve been posting anywhere and everywhere, but the last on the list has been djatrak.com. Well, all that’s about to change, starting today!

(clearing my throat)

People of the internet. In an effort to centralize my tentacular forays into Web 2.0, I decided to launch a new, simplified blog to replace my website and make this the great integrator of all my online activity. Maybe down the line I’ll add more sections and turn this into a full website. But for now there is only one priority. It starts with a “B” and it rhymes with “log”. Get it? Blog.

Here’s the fun part: I kept all my old posts going all the way back to my first tour with Kanye and Usher in 2004. There’s pages upon pages in here, and I strongly urge you to procrastinate at work and go dig into the archives. Like…. I met OJ. Need I say more?

And finally, to celebrate this launch I’m giving away 5 pairs of the super duper limited, never seen before Fool’s Gold Air Max’s!! These are the only pairs that will ever be made. To participate in the contest just email your name, address (no P.O. boxes!), shoe size and phone number to foolsgoldrecs@gmail.com CONTEST IS NOW OVER! We’ll pick 5 winners at random next week and hopefully you’ll receive these babies in time for Christmawanzannukah!

I’m going to be posting more than ever now. On top of the usual travel diaries, hotel reviews, mindsprays and announcements, expect some fashion and music content too. Maybe a horoscope here and there.

Big shout out to Dust La Rock on the design tip (as always) and Greg P with the programming magic.

Last week I went back to New York for a few days for the mtvU Woodies. I was DJing the event and they also had me announcing one of the categories with Kid Sister. For those who aren’t familiar (get familiar), the Woodies are MTV’s award show for lumberjacks and carpenters. No, no, that’s a bad joke. It’s an award show for bands who “sell wood,” i.e. cool stuff for college kids! It was at Roseland Ballroom, and I basically spent the whole day there Wednesday. They had me doing interviews in the afternoon, including this virtual thing that I didn’t really understand until I got there. In fact it was a bona fide chat room! There was a Dell laptop with a virtual A-Trak character (I could pick the clothes) and I went into a “party” and talked to people. I realize that I sound like a grandma right now but I was completely out of my element. It was pretty funny still. I think my favorite thing about award shows is the seating: in the afternoon they have pictures of the “celebrities” to mark their seats. I was meant to sit next to Debbie Harry and Moby but I never actually saw them at the seats. Anyway, I was DJing a lot of the time.

I was supposed to go to Russia a few days ago but I didn’t. Not because I didn’t try. Not because we didn’t plan ahead. Because of a magical establishment called the consulate. I had to go to the Russian consulate in Paris to get my work visa, and since I was doing this in France they actually worked something out with the French embassy in Moscow whereby I was presented as a special guest of the French embassy on an official “mission”. The consulate is 45 minutes away from where I’m staying in Paris and it’s only open from 9am to noon.

Around the World pt. 5

November 04th, 2008

As posted on the fab Fader blog.

I got back to Paris a week ago after CMJ and my body was pretty fed up with all this intercontinental crisscrossing. I was feeling the rigors of incessant pond-hopping so I canceled a few gigs and made a focused effort to rest up, for realz. If you read the previous blogs you’ll know that I was having some serious computer problems. Well, last week is also when shit hit the proverbial fan. Basically I got some major help and got my computer fixed on Monday, got it back on Tuesday and the same thing happened again except worse. Then I figured out that all along I had this evil rabid hard drive that was killing everything it touched.
