If you’re in Brooklyn, peep this exhibit

Add this to the DVD wishlist: Stax documentary
This came out in 2007. I remember when I was on tour with Kanye on the Touch The Sky tour, we rolled through Memphis and some of the guys went to the Stax museum at their old studio and brought back this movie. We watched it on the tour bus. I don’t remember why I didn’t go to the museum myself. I do remember that Ye also had an afterparty in Memphis and me & GLC invited Juicy J to come kick it with us, and he did! He came with his boy Computer, that’s the dude who would do all things computer-related for Three 6. Computer taught me the expression “snow bunny” that night. But I digress. We’re talking about Stax here.
PBS presents Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story, which highlights the rise of Stax Records, death of Otis Reading, and the seizure of the entire Stax catalog by Atlantic Records, the label’s eventual recovery, and Isaac Hayes’ rise to stardom. (RIP)
The Dufala brothers. This is big enough for Krusty the Clown’s feet.
Got this from this Flickr page. Dr Google brought me over to Steven Dufala and Billy Blaise Dufala’s website. They are brothers and (outsider?) artists. I like!!
This bird can imitate chainsaws and car alarms! Wtf?!?
I didn’t really think that my Animal Adventure series would delve into the avian realm. Probably because I like animals that are quirky and weird, and birds don’t usually fall into that category in my book. BOY WAS I WRONG. This lyre bird is a copycat. It imitates the noises of its surroundings, not just other birds but camera shutters! You gotta watch this…
By the way I got this from Carlena Altman‘s blog, a stand-up comedian who also makes Jewish rosaries… Interesting.
PS: Honorable mention to the extinct Dodo bird, the original bird that tickled my fancy since my youth watching cartoons. What cartoon had dodos in it? I can’t remember, someone help me…
New DVD release on Criterion Collection… I wanna see this!
And I thought becoming an international touring DJ at 15 was a lot of pressure! My man here became emperor of China at age 3! Hehe… Seriously though, I really want to see this. It came out in 1987 when I was 5… Not that that’s a real excuse why I haven’t seen this classic, multiple-Oscar winning film. The reality is, we didn’t watch much TV or many movies in the Macklovitch household. Although I gotta give my dad props for watching Spike Lee movies with me and my bro when we were young… sidebar.
Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor recently came out on DVD (and Blu-ray!) on the uber-respectable Criterion Collection. Check the trailer on that link, I can’t embed it.
Number (N)ine makes a New Era
When I get home I should take a picture of my hat closet and post it. It’s like something out of Harry Potter or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But when I mention that I wear a lot of caps people tend to ask me what my teams are. I have no idea, I haven’t followed sports since my brief stint as a hockey player in the 2nd and 3rd grade. Rather than sports, my steez is when some of my favorite brands and designers make New Eras: Commonwealth, Supreme, etc.
High-end Japanese fashion line Number (N)ine just unveiled this new collection of checkered (and winged?) cap collection. According to hypebeast these will be available “at both Number (N)ine Tokyo locations”. Greeeaat.
