Around the World, pt. 14
Taken from the fab Faber blog.
Hello Fader friends! I took a couple of weeks off from my Around The World column because, well, I wasn’t going around the world that much. I was mostly recording, first finishing up my Infinity +1 and Fabriclive mix CDs that are both dropping in 2 weeks, and then starting cooking up some new material for the year. I did travel a little bit. I went to visit my family in Canada.
Woman for man at the Studio B show
Taken from Craigslist:
“I was at the A-Trak show at Studio B last night with my two friends, you were there with a bunch of guys. You had on a black shirt, jeans and wingtips (I have this thing about shoes, if I don’t like your shoes I’m not likely to give you the time of day.) I wore a white t-shirt, black pants and white Nikes. Before the show started, we were sitting in one of the lounge areas and I repeatedly caught you looking at me so I acted all shy and avoided eye contact because I’m really good at that. A few hours and several drinks later, I had trouble maintaining the shyness and found you on the dance floor. I admit it, meeting up was no accident, I went looking for you. We danced and…stuff. You seemed into it – I certainly was – then it occurred to me that I should find my friends because it would have been a pain in the ass to find my way home without them, so I wandered off and lost you. I’m pretty good at that too. Wish I’d gotten your number or, at the very least, your name. Sigh.”
Interviewed by Mehdipedia
My broham DJ Mehdi is starting a new series of interviews with buddies on his excellent blog, and I have the privilege of being the first subject/victim. Check it out! Of course by now you know that Mehdi and I are playing Studio B on Saturday in New York.
By the way that’s Bob Sinclair that we’re cuddling with above. I don’t know him. So it’s funny. To me it’s funny.
Paris Fashion Week wrap-up
I just came back from a 2-day, spur-of-the-moment trip to Paris during fashion week. This wasn’t planned at all: the Infinity +1 tour starts in a few days so I was supposed to just stay home and get ready. But last Friday Kanye popped into New York for a Vanessa Beecroft art show that he helped curate, and I went to check it out and say hi to the homie. As the naked ladies were laying between the statues of naked ladies, he told me he was dipping to the airport to catch a flight to Paris. “You should come, it’ll be fun.” I gave the old “I wish I could go but my tour is about to start and I’ve got a million things to finish up” response. It was such a caricature, I was the “regular guy” in a Visa commercial who ponders the impulsive purchase for once in his life. I went home pensive, and when I woke up the next morning I thought “you know what? I’m going.”
So Me “Lousy” t-shirt for Mehdi & me
The t-shirt tells a true story! Need I remind you that the Walkie Talkie tour was 1 year ago… hehe. Thanks So Me. The tee is available on the Cool Cats store.
This is more than a picture disk, read the description!
On the artsy-fartsy scale, this exhibition by Mungo Thomson at the John Connelly Presents gallery is pretty high in the stratosphere. Peep what the website explains:
“b/w, a sound work on a white vinyl 12″ LP,applies a principle drawn from marine audio research—where certain deep-sea recordings are inaudible until sped up 16x—to commercial nature relaxation records. One side of b/w speeds up whole albums of humpback whalesong 16x until they resemble birdsong; the other side slows down tracks from birdsong albums 16x until they resemble whalesong. The “birdsong” plays outside onto 27th Street, the “whalesong” plays inside the gallery.”
Picture disks and marine animals? This was MADE for me!
The Yeezy’s are coming
I remember when a looong time ago there was pictures of Kanye in Complex wearing these red prototypes of the Yeezy and I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone what they were! Haha… Like “yo what’s those kick’s he’s wearing?” “I can’t tell you.” Now they’re finally set to drop in April. Hypebeast got the scoop.
