Animal Adventure: Singapore’s Night Safari

OK so you know I’m currently on tour in Asia. I just spent the weekend in Singapore. Running around with the False posse, I got wind of this Night Safari thing. It’s a zoo that’s only open at night! The only one in the world. Of course I had to check it out. In fact it’s only open from 7pm to midnight (those animals must have a good union) and we got there at 11pm so we had to hurry but it was still an incomparable experience.

I think my Twitter activity from that evening shows you what state of mind I was in:

“I’m going to Singapore’s nighttime zoo where I will mingle with nocturnal animals. Night safari I am so ready.”

“First animal at the night safari: a mouse-deer. Whoa!”

“Looking for the malaysian flying fox. These howling noises are scaring me shitless.” (It’s true, the wolves were howling like crazy in the dark.)

“Flying squirrels are big! Almost like a racoon and red. Big furry tail. I’m in the enclosure with it. Less affable than Rocky.”

“When a leopard pees it still looks majestic.”

All in all I saw mousedeer, fishing cat, otters, indian wolves, striped hyena, leopards, long-tailed porcupine, malay civet, flying fox and a giant flying squirrel… at night! All in 45 minutes.

Plenty more pictures after the jump.

Right as we were leaving I saw this little area where you can get your feet nibbled by little fish! I heard about this before though, it’s not just at the Night Safari. You put your feet in these water tanks and tiny fishies clean out your dead skin. Nature’s way!

After the Night Safari I said I wanted to taste some local exotic fruit so we went to the best place for fruit markets: the red light district (no joke). I tasted some durian (see below)… it’s stinky and tastes like bitter coffee. Durian burps are scary. I also had some mangosteen and lychee, and my favorite local beverage: fresh pressed sugarcane juice. That, unfortunately, kept me awake until the wee hours of the morning which is when I filmed the hotel review that you saw here
