In the news: Don’t throw poop!
The Associated Press reports:
SAN DIEGO – A man who sneaked a bag of his feces into a San Diego courtroom during his home-invasion robbery trial, smeared it on his lawyer and threw it at jurors has been sentenced to 31 years in prison.
Superior Court Judge Frank Brown on Monday sentenced Weusi McGowan for robbery, burglary and two assault charges stemming from the feces-flinging incident during his January trial.
McGowan, who attorneys say suffers from mental illness, had asked for a mistrial because he believed jurors had seen him in restraints when he entered the courtroom.
Several days after his request was denied, McGowan pulled out a bag of excrement he had hidden in his clothing, rubbed it on his lawyer and tossed it at the jury, hitting one juror’s computer case.

Free Zombie Nation mix!
For those of you who only know the name Zombie Nation from “Kernkraft 400″, um, you’re way off. But it’s OK, I’m not mad at you. You can do you homework now. Here, I’ll help you. “Kernkraft” was actually a remix of a remix of a remix that ZN had nothing to do with and it couldn’t be further from his sound.
You might know Zombie Nation as Tiga’s partner in ZZT. Or you might know his alias John Starlight. But what you should really get into is his albums. This year’s Zombielicious is one of my favorite albums of the year and a big source of inspiration for me. He’s a producer from Germany who mixes analog gear and spacey effects with chopped up samples on his MPC to make rich, spooky tracks.
He’s coming to tour America soon and out of the goodness of his zombie heart he’s giving away this mix of 25 tracks from all his albums.

Grab Siriusmo’s Chromeo remix!!
Seriously, you need this in your life. I love a good 2-parted track. Siriusmo is my favorite producer of the year, and if you don’t know how I feel about Chromeo then I don’t know what you’re doing on this blog. The combination is everything I hoped it would be! Recommended.
Also if you’re in NY this Friday don’t miss Chromeo live at Brooklyn Bowl! More info on the FG blog.

MUSICVISION Phoenix: Twenty Songs
MUSICVISION PHOENIX from Guillaume Delaperriere on Vimeo.
I know French people pretty well. Let me tell you something about French people: they talk a lot. They can speak at length about pretty much any topic. They learn that at school. Some French people, like the Phoenix dudes, have excellent taste. So there’s a certain charm in this type of musical musing down memory lane. Enjoy.

“Who Shot Rock & Roll” book
In Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History, 1955-Present, photographer Gail Buckland compiles a thrilling list of figures in both portrait and action photographs. The obvious names – Dylan, Jagger, and Lennon – are there. So are rappers like LL Cool J and Salt ‘n Pepa. In this, Buckland offers not just a compelling photographic history, but one that speaks to the intermingling of sounds and breadth of “rock & roll” as a cultural phenomenon.
Hope dope is this shot of Salt ‘a Pepa:
