Announcing: Travis x A-Trak

MTV Shows

Today MTV announced that Travis Barker and I are working together: we’re building a live show which we will be premiering in LA at the Roxy on March 9th & 10th (tickets go on sale tomorrow). I’ve been itching to work on a new live project for a while so I’m really excited about this.

Of course one can’t help but think of DJ AM at this time. All I can say is I’m proud to fill those shoes. What I’m doing with Travis will be considerably different, which I think is important. I can’t wait to put my own spin on the concept.

    Travis is Hot!!!

  12. Lloyd Says:

I’m kinda not cool with this. I love A-trak but I think this is way too soon. Come up with something new.

  13. Lloyd Says:

And “All I can say is I’m prod to fill those shoes” No one ever will my man. Unless this is a one off to benefit AM I would be OK with it but this is almost like reading a story/video that would appear on the Onion- it can’t be true.

  14. Rizzy Says:

A-Trak man, mad respects go out to you on this one. I wish I lived in LA.

Rest in peace Adam Michael Goldstein… I hope your enjoying music with all you’re favorites in some very, very special place. I miss your spin on life.

Really looking forward to seeing this show some where one the WWW A-Trak, take care.

  15. Reubz Says:

lloyd i couldn’t agree with you more,
i adore travis, but i think its way too soon

  16. Alvaro Risco Says:

I was always a bigger fan of Atrak than AM (and never quite felt the AM/Travis collab) but I agree with Lloyd. I mean it’s basically the exact same act!

  17. Gavsmom1999 Says:

Lloyd and Reubz I understand where you are coming from, however, this is probably going to provide some sort of healing for Travis. I am sure that not a day goes by that Adam is not on Travis’ mind and in his heart. It was something he loved to do with A.M. so I think he is proving how strong he is, as well as keeping Adam’s memory alive by doing a collab with A-Track that I am sure will not disapoint. Also, reading A-Track’s statement under the video provides you with the respect that he is paying to Adam. It is kind of hard to explain unless you have been through a traumatic experience and lost someone you cared so much about. Best of luck on this project, keep an open mind people, looking forward to hearing it. Rest In Peace D.J. A.M. (Adam)

  18. atrak Says:

To Lloyd and whoever agrees with him…

Don’t think that I wasn’t sensitive to this point before accepting the project. Of course I asked myself if this was the proper thing to do. But here’s what made me go through with it:

    1) This was Travis’s initiative. If he feels the time is right, wouldn’t you say he’s the only person to judge? No offense but what gives you the authority to say it’s too soon?

    2) AM was my boy, seriously my homie. Not only that but it’s AM who put Travis on to me. He brought him to Avalon to see one of my gigs years ago. I honestly feel deep down that this is what my man would have wanted.

    3) As I said in my post, this show will be very different from what they did together. I don’t take this lightly, I’m given a rare opportunity here. Out of respect for both of them I’m going to make this show a whole other beast. I’m not re-doing the TRV$DJ-AM show, I’m doing a completely new set with Travis.

  19. Lloyd Says:

Hey ATrak..I’m a fan of yours and will continue to be one. What gives me the right to say its too soon? It’s just an opinion and everyone is entitled to an opinion at least here in the U.S.

It would be great if you guys took some of the proceeds from the shows and gave them to AM’s Memorial fund. I’m hoping you’ll push this act to some new heights.

  20. peski Says:

HOW DO I RETWEET TRIZZY?????????????????????? ;)

  21. @rbrtvndrvn Says:

I posted on the MTV article about how my fave is always going to be AM because for a superstar DJ/Celeb he was so relatable, likeable and endured himself to the average person. The music he played was from the heart and not so commercial or current hip portrayal that so many DJs do.

I’ve never cried for anyone I never met until the day I heard AM died. Death is incredibly sad for anyone. Is there ever a right time to do something that brings attention to a person who has passed on? People say too soon but then when does anyone say it’s the perfect time? DJ AM is making angels dance. No doubt that he would give his blessing to this or anything else his friends want to do. We all would be down with our friends moving forward. Its life, you have to.

That being said without DJ AM I never would have been on twitter and never have followed the other DJs he talked to like ATRAK (riz, kevin scott, tina t, jazzy jeff, fashen, steve1der, spider, edski, ect ect) I bought “Infinity+1″ because of some bits on the Elton Mixs AM did. I am incredibly huge fan of TRV$-DJAM and thankful I got to hear that collaboration but rather than let it fade away I’m very happy to see the dj/drummer pairing continue. I look forward to what comes from the trv$/atrak group and any true music fan (which AM very much was) would be excited this as well.

RIP Adam- DJ AM, spin some Elvis and Doors for my Mom up there.

  22. swag Says:

I think a new year should bring new things. As such, I’m excited to see the Atrak/travis collabo. As much of a fan as I am for any artist,I am a fan of music first. With all the sentiment there still is in the music community about DJ AM. I think this will be a good push forward to help people move past a tragedy.

What’s with all you guys saying this is too soon? especially since the two people involved could probably pay homage to DJ AM’s memory better than anyone else in the bizz. It’s not like Travis/AM owned the idea of a Dj and drummer combo.I mean c’mon at its heart it’s really just like two different types of percussionist producing together.

I may be a lil bit biased cuz i plan on goin to one of the shows=),but apparently the show on the 9th is guestlist only. So maybe there will be some kind of donations made. Anyway I havent seen a-trak in awhile so I hope it turns out to be a whole nother beast like a-trak said

  23. Kyle Says:

Any place in particular to buy tickets? I can’t miss a chance to see you and Travis, especially since I missed Travis and DJ AM multiple times last year.
