Production Tips: Mixing rap vocals
February 08th, 2011
I like mixing. Studio mixing. It’s one of my favorite things to do. You know how some people do gardening and they just zone out? I think that’s how I relate to mixing.
I stumbled upon this great article on mixing rap vocals written by engineer Matthew Weiss. I like how he emphasized on how important it is to know what kind of mix you’re going for, to have certain references… going from the classic mid-90′s Bob Power grit to the glossy Bad Boy sheen. Anyway, check it out!

I like the gardening analogy. Good info too.
Thanks for showing love! I do an interview segment on that website as well being tentatively called Engineer to Engineer. I’d love to have you as a feature.
Hey man. Yea sure, we can do that… there’s an email address in the Contact section of my site, you can hit me there.
great find man!
love hearing new takes on recording vocals, they are the hardest, but most important part for sure.
Thanks a lot of this man……You da man!
