Production Tips: Mixing rap vocals

I like mixing. Studio mixing. It’s one of my favorite things to do. You know how some people do gardening and they just zone out? I think that’s how I relate to mixing.

I stumbled upon this great article on mixing rap vocals written by engineer Matthew Weiss. I like how he emphasized on how important it is to know what kind of mix you’re going for, to have certain references… going from the classic mid-90′s Bob Power grit to the glossy Bad Boy sheen.
