If you don’t have the Kid Sister album by now you ain’t no friend of mine. As most of you know I executive-produced Ultraviolet, her début album which came out in November. You can still grab it of course, and redeem your friendship.

But I digress. She’s currently touring America. Go check her out!

Announcing: Travis x A-Trak

February 17th, 2010

Today MTV announced that Travis Barker and I are working together: we’re building a live show which we will be premiering in LA at the Roxy on March 9th & 10th (tickets go on sale tomorrow). I’ve been itching to work on a new live project for a while so I’m really excited about this.

Of course one can’t help but think of DJ AM at this time. All I can say is I’m proud to fill those shoes. What I’m doing with Travis will be considerably different, which I think is important. I can’t wait to put my own spin on the concept.

I’m playing Sasquatch

February 16th, 2010

The line-up for this year’s Sasquatch! festival has been announced! Go check their website. I’m playing on Sunday May 30th. Tickets go on sale Feb 20th.

Here’s an anecdote about Sasquatch: back when I was DJing for Kanye we played this festival in May of 2005. Kanye was just a few weeks away from finishing Late Registration. I hadn’t seen him in a while because he had been in the studio for so long. He was working on “Golddigger” and felt like testing it out live that day even though it wasn’t quite finished. I knew the song before it was recorded. Now that it was coming together, I told him I wanted to lay some scratches. I said “I want to scratch on ‘Get down!’ in that part where you say ‘get down girl, go ‘head get down’.” To prove my point, when we performed the song live (for the first time, with no rehearsal) I grabbed the sample and tried that scratch in front of this festival crowd of thousands. Kanye liked it, we flew to LA a few days later and the rest is history. Check my post from 2005 that shows a pic of the festival followed by a pic of me, Ye and Jon Brion in the studio.

Welcome to the spruced up djatrak.com

January 16th, 2010

Hi!

I expanded this-here website a little bit. Hope you like the renovations. It’s still based on my blog but there are a few new sections. Have a look around, get comfortable. You’ll probably be most excited about the Downloads page. Grab some mp3′s, I put some edits of a few of my remixes and a rare Japan-only mix that I made a few years back with original Kanye samples. I’ll be updating that regularly with more goodies.

So grab a beer from Grateful and make yourself comfortable. Maybe stay over for dinner?

Not Just Yet

January 08th, 2010

Perhaps you’re aware that there has been a swirl of rumors about me producing the next Madonna album. Here is my official statement on the matter, as presented today to Pitchfork:

“Those Madonna rumors started from a joke my boy DJ Mehdi made in an interview. Then it spread to Madonna fan-sites. Then the Daily Star fabricated a quote from me. Next thing you know it was on NME and MTV. I’m not opposed to the idea, but it’s all fiction for now. By the way, DJ Mehdi is producing the next Britney record.”

This article in XXL also gets the seal of approval from me.

First of all, the results are in for the URB 2009 Readers Poll and I wanted to send a big thank you to everyone who voted! My mix CD Infinity +1 won Compilation Of The Year, and I’m runner-up for Electronic Artist Of The Year.

And second, a big smooch to everyone who attended Hard New Year’s Eve in LA. A celebration! Shout out to the Hard crew, Mehdi & Alex & fam, as well as EIKNARF, Asian Dan and Media Contender. Here’s a little recap vid from the night:
