Dust La Rock “B.K. Scum” exhibit opens March 4th

February 23rd, 2011

BK Scum

If you’re a regular visitor to this site, then you must know Dust La Rock: my art director and that of my record label Fool’s Gold. After the overwhelming success of his Best Of The Beast art show 2 years ago, Dust is now ready to bring us a new exhibition. This one is called B.K. Scum and it’s inspired by the work of experimental sound collective and multimedia pioneers Psychic TV.

The show opens Friday, March 4th at 350 Broadway, the gallery / retail home of clothing label Mishka, who will be releasing their own Psychic TV-inspired clothing collection, as well as an exclusive B.K. Scum tee shirt available for purchase at the show. In addition, Dust has teamed up with DJ / producer Star Eyes (Trouble & Bass) for a B.K. Scum mix, a collection of Psychic TV music and rarities collected throughout the years, along with exclusive vocals from Genesis. Download it now!

Trevor Jackson presents: NOWHERE

February 20th, 2011

Trevor Jackson isn’t a stranger to this blog. He’s been a friend of the Brothers Macklovitch for many years and if you aren’t familiar with his work I strongly suggest you spend a bit of time browsing through his site. To my DJ peers he might be known mostly for his music, ranging from the excellent Playgroup project all the way back to early 90′s remixes of hip hop greats under the name Underdog. But he’s also an accomplished graphic designer, with memorable album covers for Soulwax and The Rapture (Echoes) under his belt.

His first solo art show will be premiering soon at KK Outlet in London.

NOWHERE features highly personal photographic and video studies that explore related themes of honesty, simplicity, manipulation and ego.” I can dig it.

The exhibition runs March 4 – 26. More info here.

Making your bed just got easier

November 17th, 2010

The Letto Zip Bed by Florida Smart Italian Design kinda looks like a giant blood cell. It zips open and close in one swift motion. But here’s my question… do you really have to have nothing on your floor to make this look right? What if you don’t have a highrise view? What if you live in an old Victorian home? Or a dorm room? Imagine some guy showing up to a dorm room with the Letto Zip Bed. That would be “haha” funny.

Went to Shepard Fairey’s May Day exhibition

May 03rd, 2010

Saturday was the opening of Shepard Fairey’s much publicized exhibition at New York’s Deitch Projects, incidentally the last showing at this famed gallery. I went with my brother (as I was also DJing the afterparty) and we checked out the mob scene. This was also New York’s first weekend of proper summer weather, so it was a great day to be out. In attendance, on one hand you could find the veritable who’s who of “street art”: Lee Quinones, Haze, Kaws, Fab 5 Freddy; and on the other hand, a bunch of eccentric old art collectors in pastel suits. Dave and I ran into home old friends and ended up just discussing secret food spots in our neighborhood.

Congrats to Shepard for the overwhelming success!

Whitney Biennial 2010 edition featuring Aurel Schmidt

February 24th, 2010

Every two years, curators from the Whitney Museum of American Art (in New York’s Upper East Side) gauge the pulse of art in America with an exhibition called the Biennial. This year marks the seventy-fifth edition, simply titled 2010. It opens tomorrow, February 25th, and will run until May 30th. 55 artists will show one piece each.

In reading up about this event I was particularly drawn to Aurel Schmidt’s work. You can watch a video interview that the NY Times’ T Magazine conducted with her before Art Basel here, and read more about the Biennial here and here.

More images from Aurel Schmidt after the jump.

Sophomore’s Spring 2010 Collection: trailer by Cass Bird

January 20th, 2010

For this upcoming season of Chrissie Miller’s Sophomore clothing line, photographer Cass Bird takes us to classic Coney Island and delivers the above video rather than giving us the usual lookbook. Viral content!!!

Coney Island makes me think of Nathan’s hot dogs. Would you believe me if I told you that I once had a Nathan’s hot dog in Japan? It was the most plump, bright and symmetrical hot dog I’ve ever eaten.

New Sixpack collection

January 08th, 2010

There’s some groovy fumes coming out of the Sixpack office.
This video is a teaser for their new collection Peyote Poem shot in fabulous Palm Springs.

As you may recall I was featured in Sixpack’s lookbook last year… which led to my old Wikipedia entry saying that I “modeled” for them… which led to every interviewer asking me about my “modeling”… which led to me having my Wiki page fixed!
