12Support the homies
I’m gonna start this one off on a somber note, because I want to bring your attention to two friends of mine who went through some hardships recently.
First off, the big homie DV One in Seattle was the victim of senseless police brutality, along with his daughter. You can read about it here. And I want to point out, DV is one of the most positive and righteous dudes I know, so this news came as a total shock to me. Feel free to show some love on his MySpace page. Hold your head up, DV.
And second, I gotta say my man Trackademicks is one of my favorite up-and-coming producers right now. He’s bringing that hard-hitting slap music and bridging a lot of gaps in an effortless way, which to me is the way to go. So I’m sad to say that his studio burnt down last week. You can read about it on the blog on his MySpace page. I’m sure he’d appreciate your support.
Now if we could change gears for a second, let’s do a little September recap, shall we?
European Sunglasses
I ended off my summer with a 2 week string of shows in the Old Continent, which I guess could qualify as the European (and final) leg of the Sunglasses Is A Must tour. My first show was a the Hip Hop Kemp festival in what I thought was going to be Prague. In fact it was 2 hours away, in rural Czech Republic. I don’t remember the name of the city but I couldn’t really pronounce it anyway, in all honesty. Really, I was picturing going to Prague and recreating the “Diamonds from Sierra Leone” video by myself. Instead I had a driver who blasted a Tiesto live mix in the car while dropping such jewels as “I stop at petrol station to roll joint with other driver, OK? You want sandwich?” The show itself was dope, though. 20,000 people in a field. The next day I did the Lowlands festival outside of Amsterdam, which had a great lineup but I didn’t get to see much because of heavy rain.
Chi-Town escapades
Last time I wrote I was close to finishing up the Kanye tour overseas, where we hit festivals in no particular order and slept half-hour nights like it was going out of style. Yes, it was a hard one. We did manage to end it off on a grandiose high note. Our last show was in Nice, France (in a surreal field full of olive trees that obstructed the view of the stage). Kanye had decided to splurge and stay at a different hotel in Monte Carlo, and late that night we all went to meet up there, had a bacchanalian good time and drove back to catch our early-morning flights home.
MTV Canada Diary & South Africa
If you followed the Sunglasses Tour diaries (which is a rhetorical question), then you know that MTV Canada was filming a Diary on me in the context of the tour. Well, my friendly canucks, mark your calendars (draw a heart around the date) because it’s airing this week. That’s right kinfolk: July 19th at 7pm, tune in to watch a full half-hour of Trizzy madness. The National Post plugged it in a “Things To Watch” feature, so it’s gotta be good. I believe the show will be available on the MTV Overdrive website, but that’s only for PC squares. For all my Mac loving free spirited cool expressive artistic brothers (irony, people), I’m trying to get my hands on an mpeg of this baby.
Trumpets please!!!
Holy moly, sweet mother of all things that are sacred, by the beard of Zeus and the nectar of the gods. (Deep breath)
Ladies and gents, duderinos and duderinas (if you’re not into the whole brevity thing). I am hereby welcoming you to the long awaited, highly anticipated and fauna populated arrival of my new website!
Dem nah ready. That’s what I say. Dem nah ready.
MySpace, Japan, and SIAM tour
Alright, that’s it. I had to do it. I’m sorry, I had to do it. I tried to hold off for as long as I could. But then when Illseed got on, I had to get on. Sure I don’t know Illseed but I’m a faithful Allhiphop reader, and I relate to the guy. So… I got on MySpace. It’s been about 3 weeks now so some of yall probably found me already. But if you haven’t… I’m at www.myspace.com/djatrak. You’ll see, the moose is there with me, holding me down.
Now that I got that out of the way… back to tour stories. Last time I wrote I was just getting into Japan for the last couple of shows of the Kanye tour.
Wrapping up Kanye international tour
And now back to our reporter on the field. Get this: in Australia you can get whiskey and coke in a can. Mixed. I tried explaining to some locals why that’s “ha ha” funny to me but didn’t have too much success.
DVD update; Euro mash continues
Alright so I’d like to clear up a few things about the release of my DVD. First things first: despite what the trailer and the main page of this very site says, the DVD doesn’t come with a soundtrack. Basically I made the trailer before even starting the DVD. Then I launched this website as a splash page to show the trailer. That was almost 2 years ago. When I started working on the CD portion, it gradually turned into an album, which grew its own legs and strolled away into its own bubble. Now that should come out around the end of this year or early ’07. The album, not the bubble. Instead, to go with the DVD, I’m putting out a 45 of the theme song that you hear during the trailer, which is called “Knucklehead”. That’ll be released before the end of the month.
Kanye in Europe
I had one more week at home after that, and then I hit the road for, well, 2 months. I started off in Detroit where we did a Kanye show during Superbowl week. Freeway was at that show. His beard is longer than ever, like at least 6 inches of beard power. And he has a grill now, so he looks like a superhero. From there I went to New York to play at the Rub, and you can check out that Fader diary for a detailed rundown of the Grammys which came right after that. It’s juicier than anything I’ve ever written on my own site!
U2, Trinidad, NY holidays
I guess I could announce the release date at this point!
USA: Feb 21st
Canada: Feb 28th
Europe: Feb 20st
Japan: Feb 22nd
Yes, the DVD will be in stores in a month. Get your shades ready.
Now in case you’re wondering what’s been going on in Trizzyland since the last update, basically we finished the U2 shows with Kanye, then we did a gig in Trinidad. Ya mon.
