Brother from another mother Mehdi made a very useful edit of Erol Alkan & Boys Noize’s seizure-inducing “Death Suite”. Here it is, courtesy of the Boys Noize Recs blog!

Whoooole lot of original samples on this site

July 29th, 2009

I gotta give props to KevinNottingham.com, their/his Diggin’ In Da Crates section is a SERIOUS load of original samples both by producer (Dilla, Kanye, Just Blaze) and by artist/album.

Complete samples from Joe Budden’s “Mood Music” 2 AND 3??? hehehe…. No but seriously there’s plenty of goldmines. It’s one thing to make a list of samples but you can download everything here.

Chromeo cover the Eagles for upcoming DJ Kicks

July 21st, 2009

I got a brother and his name is Gizmo Chromeo.

Soooo Chromeo did the next DJ Kicks compilation and here’s the kicker (pun intended): they covered The Eagles classic “I Can’t Tell You Why”. You gotta hear this.

Head on over to www.chromeo-djkicks.com and grab the freebie!

Download Seiji “Hohoho”

June 05th, 2009

If Seiji isn’t already on your radar, he should be. The London producer is part of the Bugz In The Attic collective and his remix of Erykah Badu’s “Honey” was one of my favorite tracks of 2008. Keep an eye out for the upcoming Crookers EP on Fool’s Gold where Seiji remixed the Kid Cudi collaboration “Embrace The Martian”.

He recently launched a new site seiji.co.uk where you can grab some free goodies, including this track “Ho Ho Ho”.

My favorite new UK Funky song

May 06th, 2009

Remember a few months ago I posted that K.I.G. Family song? I’m back in London and there’s a new Funky tune burning up radio. I love this…

Fuzzy Logic feat. Egypt “In The Morning”

Recommended Listening: Linda Lewis

May 04th, 2009

A few years ago when I was on tour with Kanye, his manager asked me to make a mix CD out of various songs sampled by Kanye. It was only released in Japan so lots of people never heard it, it was called Kanye’s Soul Mixshow. Far and away the best song on the CD was the original for Common “Go”: “Old Smokey” by Linda Lewis. I listened to it again this week and just had to share. The “Go” sample creeps in at the end, right around when you forget that you were actually listening for a Common loop.

GLC & A-Trak cutting room floor

February 14th, 2009

I just saw this mp3 on the Kanye blog… might as well post it here too since I produced it!

Back in 2005/2006 I made this mixtape with GLC called Drive Slow and one of the tracks we didn’t use was this cover of DJ Quik’s “Born And Raised”. There’s no instrumental of the original so I had to re-make the beat. I did the cuts too. Not sure why this is leaking now but hey, I always liked this joint… here it is.
