June 25th, 2008

Dudes! You’ve known since this post that I was about to come out with a record for all your jogging needs. This is essentially my first record — can you feel the excitement in my blogging style today? Anyway it’s out now and you can cop it on iTunes. It’s available all over the world but our North American friends also get a 5 minute “behind the scenes” style video shot in my studio living room.

Do The Running Man

June 10th, 2008

I can finally announce my record! The damn thing comes out in 2 weeks. Sooooo Nike does this series where they ask producers to make a continuous 45 minute piece of original music meant for people to jog to. I made one and it comes out June 24th exclusively on iTunes. The only catch is I don’t run. In fact I said it in the official press release:

“I don’t really run. Yet when Nike asked me to do this track I was smitten. There was a musical challenge there, and I got excited. I’ve been producing mostly uptempo electro tracks as of late, but my background is hip-hop and I think you can hear it in my choice of sounds. I wanted this record to showcase my current style, but I also didn’t want to stray away from hip-hop completely. That’s why you find guest rap verses in the mix, plenty of chopped & screwed vocals, and a hefty dose of drums breaks that are surely more block party than Ibiza.” — me

Here I am.

November 21st, 2007

Apologies in order. If you have visited this website in the past 5 months you must have noticed that I haven’t had a chance to update it. That’s rather bogus of me but I just haven’t been able to. I apologize.

So from now on rather than trying to have each entry follow the previous one and cover every single week of my life, I’ll just blog individual, noteworthy stuff For info on my upcoming shows, please consult my myspace page.

As far as recent events: the Fool’s Gold tour was bananas! Check the full official recap here!
After that the A-Trak & DJ Mehdi “Walkie Talkie Tour” took that mayhem to Europe. And now I’ve just started the official Kanye West “Glow In The Dark Tour”. We have a whole new band, new stage set, new show from beginning to end and I’m loving it. I’ll be writing about this…

Chromeo and I are on the cover of this month’s BPM magazine!

And I’m also nominated for a Plug Award for Dirty South Dance!! VOTE HERE!

More news soon… I promise!

Asian Invasion

April 22nd, 2007

(You should read the previoius update first, it’ll make more sense.
-Ed.)

I know it’s a little perverse to complain about flying to Asia for some Kanye West shows, but after 15 shows in 2 weeks I would have loved to stay home for just a few days. No such luck. I had to go to Japan and Kuala Lumpur for 10 days.

Extra goodies!

September 03rd, 2006

I have two announcements to make.

First, I did a mixtape called “Kanye’s Soul Mixshow” (I didn’t pick the title) for this Japanese label and it just came out. I think it’s a Japan-only situation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some CDs eventually showed up on our shores. The concept is pretty simple: it’s all soul records that Kanye has sampled. So the challenge was to take all these records that happen to be linked to Kanye’s catalogue and make a good, coherent mix out of it. I’m pretty happy with how it came out. Kanye hosted the whole thing. And it’s not some generic drops; he actually tells funny stories while the samples are playing. My favorite is during the Cam’Ron “Down & Out” sample, he goes into this whole thing about “this is my favorite beat that I didn’t really do”… You gotta track down the CD to get the scoop!
