Mehdi Forever

September 28th, 2011

Mehdi

How can I imagine life without Mehdi? It’s a question I never thought I would have to ask myself. Mehdi was without a doubt like a brother to me, a friend well beyond our music ties, a kindred spirit and someone who played an irreplaceable and constant role in my life. In the days since his passing I’ve been reflecting a lot on our friendship and felt the need to write down my thoughts. Here goes.

It’s going down from 2-8pm in a great outdoor space behind City Winery in NYC (155 Varick St, entrance on Spring between Hudson & Varick) and the all-ages event will feature guest raps from Yelawolf, Pill and Donnis, DJ sets from The Brothers Macklovitch (Dave & me), Just Blaze, Craze, Klever, Kill The Noise and Nick Catchdubs, and a live performance by The Suzan. Around the World Pt.28

August 04th, 2010

As posted on the fab Fader blog.

When we last spoke I was halfway through my European festival tour, reaching grueling levels of travel erosion, feeling the wear-and-tear of sleep deprivation and nonsensical flight routings. I had two days “off” in London, which only meant that I didn’t need to go to an airport during those days, not that I was actually resting. My next show was in Norway for the OsloLive festival, in a park inside the city. That show was a lot less of a mission than the others, in the sense that we didn’t have to drive out into the wilderness and my set was at a civilized hour. Even within city confines, Nordic crowds like to get down and scream in unison. The Scissor Sisters played right after me and I’m currently obsessed with their album. I also met Tony Senghore, whose tracks I’ve been spinning in my sets for the last year or so. He’s Swedish and he was talking to me about various Swedish producers who live in isolated towns up North, far from everything. Reminded me of this show that I did many years ago on a boat in the land of the Svensk. But I digress.

Around The World Pt.27: European Festivals

July 15th, 2010

As posted on the fab Fader blog… but more pics here!

Did ya miss me? It’s been many months since my last official Around The World post. The reason is simple: I reserve those for real tours, and I wasn’t doing heavy duty zig-zagging… Until now. Festival season is upon us, folks. It’s that time of the year when kids gather in fields, pitch up tents and live the dream. The dream of live music. Europe has a particularly high concentration of such festivals. So if you deducted that I’m currently in Europe playing festivals… you are correct! But how are the shows going? Did I prepare a special set for the summer? Can I charge my Sonicare toothbrush on European voltage? All those questions will be answered in this blog post. Read on, my friends.

Fool’s Gold at CMJ: 2 parties!

October 12th, 2009

2 parties this year! Wednesday 10/21 come check out our new signings (including bands!) at 88 Palace, a converted dim sum restaurant that’s been home to those wild Flashing Lights parties as of late. Then Thursday 10/22 rave it out with our DJs and extended fam at a free party in Williamsburg.

CMJ is where it all kicked into high gear for Fool’s Gold 2 years ago so it’s a tradition that we don’t take lightly. See you there!
