514Farewell Fat Beats
After 16 years of being the mecca of underground hip hop, Fat Beats closed its last remaining stores in New York and LA. I have a lot of history with the company, since my first record label Audio Research was distributed through them. So it was an honor to be invited to perform on the last day of a week of in-stores, last Saturday, alongside many greats like DJ Premier, Just Blaze and DJ Scratch. I did a full set of routines, I think it was about 17 minutes long! That’s like 3 DMC’s, yo. Peter Rosenberg captured some highlights, peep the video… and Fat Beats, I tip my fedora to thee.

Chromeo in the dark
New video for Chromeo “Don’t Turn The Lights On” directed by Keith Schofield. I had to watch it about 5 times to catch all the details in the background…
If you missed Duck Sauce at EDC… meet the duck
On June 25th and 26th I performed at LA’s immense and much fabled Electric Daisy Carnival. The first night was with Travis Barker under our Travis x A-Trak project which we originally kicked off in March. See pictures below. We revamped the set, added even more wikki-wikkis and beefed up the lights on stage. And the second night was with Duck Sauce, our 2nd show ever, our first festival show ever, and the first appearance of… the duck.

A video teaser worth watching: Skream
There is an epidemic of “Behind the scenes” teasers for videos (especially rap visuals — they call them “B.T.S.”) that are all as useless and interchangeable as the next. The race for content in the blogosphere is getting ridiculous. This, on the other hand, is a true “Making of” feature that’s actually worth watching. It really makes me look forward to this upcoming video for Skream’s “Listenin’ to the Records on my Wall”. A biblical twist to the Amen drums… how appropriate.
Carte Blanche “Gare Du Nord” teaser video
If you’re a regular here at Cafe Del Trizzy you already know that Carte Blanche is DJ Mehdi & Riton, chilling in the House that Jack built. Their EP Black Billionaires is dropping May 31st on Ed Banger and this is the dance-tastic teaser for “Gare Du Nord”. Funny, I can’t really see Riton in the video. But Mehdi is everywhere.
The Electro Wars documentary
Both my brother and I were featured in this documentary on the Electro scene, which I believe I slated to premiere at WMC in a few weeks. It also features Justice, Steve Aoki, MSTRKRFT, DJ Premier, LMFAO, Lil Jon and an actual sidechain compressor. For more info check thelectrowars.com.
Watch my performance with Chilly Gonzales!
Often times it’s the casual shows, the “oh I’m just doing this on the side for fun” shows that end up being my favorite ones. Maybe it’s because I love to improvise. Or maybe it’s because these are shows I do with my friends, which is fertile ground for creativity. Last year it was my set at the Do Over. This year so far, my favorite performance was this little guest spot I did at Chilly Gonzales’s “Piano Talk Show” at Joe’s Pub in New York last Thursday. It was barely rehearsed, only 15 minutes in length, and we were both coming in from long flights with little to no sleep. Watch the result, I hope you enjoy it!
I strongly recommend Gonzo’s new mixtape, Pianist Envy. Trust me, you’ve never heard anything like this. Download it here!
Big thanks to Nicky Digital for the video clips.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs: secrets revealed!
This applies to the original version of Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Heads Will Roll”, not my remix… Vancouver’s DJ U-Tern found the plug-in preset that gave birth to that main string line. Check it out!
To me this doesn’t really discredit the song too much, it’s more of a “so that’s how they did it” moment. It’s funny how the actual note intervals were already mapped out though. I remember listening to that string part when I was working on my remix and wondering what they used to make it… Now the cat is out of the proverbial bag.
