Chromeo cover the Eagles for upcoming DJ Kicks
I got a brother and his name is Gizmo Chromeo.
Soooo Chromeo did the next DJ Kicks compilation and here’s the kicker (pun intended): they covered The Eagles classic “I Can’t Tell You Why”. You gotta hear this.

Around The World, pt. 9
As posted on the fab Fader blog.
There ain’t much around-the-world-ness going on for me right now, folks. Now that I’m back from Paris I’m doing about 1 gig per week and for the most part staying home and recording. After Christmas I’ll be going to Australia and New Zealand but for now I’m rather sedentary. Last Thursday I did a gig in London…. Ontario! It’s a city about an hour away from Toronto. I think the last time I played there was in 1998, possibly with Obscure Disorder, the rap group from Montreal that I used to DJ for.
Videos from the mtvU Woodies
As you may know I DJ’ed the mtvU Woodies awards recently. I also presented the “Left Field” category with Kid Sister… and Chromeo won!
They sent me some clips. Here we are announcing…
Around the World pt. 7
As posted on the fab Fader blog. More pics here.
Last week I went back to New York for a few days for the mtvU Woodies. I was DJing the event and they also had me announcing one of the categories with Kid Sister. For those who aren’t familiar (get familiar), the Woodies are MTV’s award show for lumberjacks and carpenters. No, no, that’s a bad joke. It’s an award show for bands who “sell wood,” i.e. cool stuff for college kids! It was at Roseland Ballroom, and I basically spent the whole day there Wednesday. They had me doing interviews in the afternoon, including this virtual thing that I didn’t really understand until I got there. In fact it was a bona fide chat room! There was a Dell laptop with a virtual A-Trak character (I could pick the clothes) and I went into a “party” and talked to people. I realize that I sound like a grandma right now but I was completely out of my element. It was pretty funny still. I think my favorite thing about award shows is the seating: in the afternoon they have pictures of the “celebrities” to mark their seats. I was meant to sit next to Debbie Harry and Moby but I never actually saw them at the seats. Anyway, I was DJing a lot of the time.
Coachillin’: the recap
First things first, make sure you check out the official recaps of the Screaming Bloody Murder tour here and here. We did 8 untamed shows in 10 days, it felt like a barbarous blitz of rave riot. Sammy Bananas is the new official mascot of Fool’s Gold and his mustache couldn’t have been more timely. Steve is a dynamo, I don’t know where he gets his energy. And Sinden is my brother from a British mother. I can officially say the 2nd Fool’s Gold tour was a smash hit, and before I could even catch up with any sleep I was off to Coachella.
SXSW and WMC!
This was my first year going to SXSW so I kinda went all out. 8 shows in 4 days makes Homer go crazy. But I was there with a bunch of friends so at least it was fun doing all these shows together, pushing the new label and the Dirty South Dance CD all at once. Add a couple of Tex-Mex meals to the mix and I’m good to go.
Support the homies
I’m gonna start this one off on a somber note, because I want to bring your attention to two friends of mine who went through some hardships recently.
First off, the big homie DV One in Seattle was the victim of senseless police brutality, along with his daughter. You can read about it here. And I want to point out, DV is one of the most positive and righteous dudes I know, so this news came as a total shock to me. Feel free to show some love on his MySpace page. Hold your head up, DV.
And second, I gotta say my man Trackademicks is one of my favorite up-and-coming producers right now. He’s bringing that hard-hitting slap music and bridging a lot of gaps in an effortless way, which to me is the way to go. So I’m sad to say that his studio burnt down last week. You can read about it on the blog on his MySpace page. I’m sure he’d appreciate your support.
Now if we could change gears for a second, let’s do a little September recap, shall we?
Trumpets please!!!
Holy moly, sweet mother of all things that are sacred, by the beard of Zeus and the nectar of the gods. (Deep breath)
Ladies and gents, duderinos and duderinas (if you’re not into the whole brevity thing). I am hereby welcoming you to the long awaited, highly anticipated and fauna populated arrival of my new website!
Dem nah ready. That’s what I say. Dem nah ready.
Call for submissions, MTV, Vancouver
Extra extra! Call for submissions!
I’m starting to plan a North American tour in February to promote the release of my DVD. I’m looking for somebody to do visuals on this tour. Obviously this would entail being on the road, I’d say for a good 3-4 weeks. And I’m looking for someone who understands the aesthetic that I’ve been working with in my projects so far, who has experience doing visuals for live shows and who can bring lots of creativity to the show. Please email me your submissions (info@djatrak.com). Thanks.
Now back to the diary… The MTV $2 Bill show was off the chizzain. I heard that they’re already airing ads for it on TV. I don’t want to spoil the surprises before the broadcast but we had some very special and entertaining guests that night. Later on we stopped by the Guitar Center Spin-Off, where Common and Kweli were performing, and Diplo and Madlib were spinning.
