Interesting read on Damon Dash
OK this picture is kind of a bigger deal than the content of this post. Of course it’s Damon Dash, me and Kanye, but this is the first time I met Kanye, right when he asked me to come on tour with him. Dame was actually trying to get me to DJ for Samantha Ronson but Kanye snatched me. This picture has never appeared online. Straight out the shoebox. (May, 2004)
Anyway, the reason for this post is I wanted to link an article on Damon Dash written by this guy Combat Jack. Not sure who he is, he says he “repped” Dame in the mid-90′s. Just by coincidence there’s also that video that surfaced today of Dame spazzing out… but the article is much more interesting. Watching a guy spazz is pretty one-dimensional. I actually have a lot of respect for Dame and am a bit fascinated with the early days of Roc-A-Fella since I run a label myself. So, read up!
Shout out to DJ Soul for the twitter referral.
Q-Tip needle dropping skills!
Watch this, it’s a clip of Q-Tip working a sample for a Consequence track, in the studio with Kanye and them. But the way Tip loops the sample just by needle dropping is ill!!
UPDATE: Something seems to be wrong, this damn Kyte player is playing the wrong episode of Cons TV… ugh… bring back the needle drop!
Kid Cudi, Kanye, Common & me
Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Common & myself – I Poke Her Face (LowQuality Radio Rip)
I was home for 2 days this past week, between WMC and the start of my European tour. Perfect timing: Kanye sent me this joint and asked me for some “good ol scratches” (verbatim). I jumped on it immediately and here we are just a few days later, it premiered on Hot 97. This is a really low res radio rip but I like it because hey, I get plenty of shout outs! Thanks DJ Enuff.
I’m sure the CDQ version will be online imminently…

UPDATE: Here’s the official version!
I like the pic on Kanye’s blog too:
Around the World, pt. 14
Taken from the fab Faber blog.
Hello Fader friends! I took a couple of weeks off from my Around The World column because, well, I wasn’t going around the world that much. I was mostly recording, first finishing up my Infinity +1 and Fabriclive mix CDs that are both dropping in 2 weeks, and then starting cooking up some new material for the year. I did travel a little bit. I went to visit my family in Canada.
Paris Fashion Week wrap-up
I just came back from a 2-day, spur-of-the-moment trip to Paris during fashion week. This wasn’t planned at all: the Infinity +1 tour starts in a few days so I was supposed to just stay home and get ready. But last Friday Kanye popped into New York for a Vanessa Beecroft art show that he helped curate, and I went to check it out and say hi to the homie. As the naked ladies were laying between the statues of naked ladies, he told me he was dipping to the airport to catch a flight to Paris. “You should come, it’ll be fun.” I gave the old “I wish I could go but my tour is about to start and I’ve got a million things to finish up” response. It was such a caricature, I was the “regular guy” in a Visa commercial who ponders the impulsive purchase for once in his life. I went home pensive, and when I woke up the next morning I thought “you know what? I’m going.”
The Yeezy’s are coming
I remember when a looong time ago there was pictures of Kanye in Complex wearing these red prototypes of the Yeezy and I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone what they were! Haha… Like “yo what’s those kick’s he’s wearing?” “I can’t tell you.” Now they’re finally set to drop in April. Hypebeast got the scoop.
Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreak AF1′s
This dude Mache made these custom Air Force 1′s based on Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreak album art, including the Kaws stuff. (Sidebar: I personally preferred the album art pre-Kaws… no disrespect to the god.)

Go pick up Kanye’s album
808s & Heartbreak just came out today. Make sure you pick it up!
I worked on that song “Robocop”, I’ll tell you more about it soon… But for now, enjoy this video of me and the dude talking about our beards. This was filmed before my stay in Paris… My beard was oh-so-young back then. (Cue reminiscing harp sound)
Around the World pt. 2
As posted on the fab Fader blog.
When we last left off I had just arrived in LA to link up with Kanyeezy. He’s finishing up this 808′s & Heartbreak album much faster than his typical pace and we wanted to catch up on the music before I head out to Paris, where I’ll be living for the fall. He was recording in an undisclosed location with a nice courtyard with patio chairs. Usually, studio sessions in LA or New York are hell because everyone wants to come and hang out, but not this one. Actually, when I showed up he was doing an interview. He also had a meeting with Vanessa Beecroft which led to them collaborating on his listening party—you’ve probably seen the flyer on the blogosphere. I listened to the whole album and then once everyone left we went over a bunch of the songs and made some tweaks and exchanged some ideas. There were songs where he wasn’t quite happy with the effects on his voice so I took some stems and worked on them in the following days. We stayed at the studio pretty late appreciating each other’s beards and finally called it a night.
