Wizard of Oz, Pt.1

February 14th, 2008

Good on ya, mates!

(That’s a little deeper in Aussie slang than the obvious “g’day”)

I’m reporting live via my hotel room in Sydney. I’m out here doing the Good Vibrations festival. In Australia they have these festivals that hit multiple cities. It’s like being part of a traveling circus for 10 days. A traveling techno circus. At every one of these shows I’m doing an A-Trak & Kid Sister set in one tent and then I run over to the main tent and do the Kanye show.

Is it June already??

June 22nd, 2007

OK I admit it. I messed up. I waited too long since the last update and now I have to rack my brain, look through my calendar and my iPhoto and figure out what the hell I’ve been up to for the past 2 months. Ah well, here goes… This one’s for you, Internet.

I think the last time I BLOGGED was right before Coachella. (I no longer run away from the word blog. See? I just blogged the word blog.) By a bizarre twist of booking fate I was actually absent on the first day of the festival when my better half was giving her big performance. Truth is, I accepted this show with Stretch that paid a heck of a lot of moola. So while Kid Sister was rocking on the same stage that friggin’ Bjork was gonna perform on, I was out in Memphis playing a corporate gig and being intensely existential.

Catch An Attitude pt.2

March 12th, 2007

OK kids, here comes a big announcement. Are you sitting down? Of course you’re sitting down, you’re at the computer. Who computes standing up? Maybe you should get up to sit back down, just to get that “this is serious” feeling. You ready? Alright, I’m going in. (pause)

Back in Oz

November 22nd, 2006

Australia has a lot of flies in the summer. I know it’s not summertime for most of you but it’s summertime for me, in ye olde southern hemisphere.

I also know I usually start these updates like this: “let’s pick up where the last one left off; I played in this city, then I played in that city, where I got a funny picture with this rapper; two weeks later, yatta yatta bim bam boom” and I work my way towards the present point, the origin of the axis. But this time I kinda feel like just picking up where this current tour started. I’m not skipping that much in the narrative scheme. I did a couple shows, including CMJ, and there you have it. Let’s go to Australia.

Support the homies

October 12th, 2006

I’m gonna start this one off on a somber note, because I want to bring your attention to two friends of mine who went through some hardships recently.

First off, the big homie DV One in Seattle was the victim of senseless police brutality, along with his daughter. You can read about it here. And I want to point out, DV is one of the most positive and righteous dudes I know, so this news came as a total shock to me. Feel free to show some love on his MySpace page. Hold your head up, DV.

And second, I gotta say my man Trackademicks is one of my favorite up-and-coming producers right now. He’s bringing that hard-hitting slap music and bridging a lot of gaps in an effortless way, which to me is the way to go. So I’m sad to say that his studio burnt down last week. You can read about it on the blog on his MySpace page. I’m sure he’d appreciate your support.

Now if we could change gears for a second, let’s do a little September recap, shall we?

Chi-Town escapades

August 12th, 2006

Last time I wrote I was close to finishing up the Kanye tour overseas, where we hit festivals in no particular order and slept half-hour nights like it was going out of style. Yes, it was a hard one. We did manage to end it off on a grandiose high note. Our last show was in Nice, France (in a surreal field full of olive trees that obstructed the view of the stage). Kanye had decided to splurge and stay at a different hotel in Monte Carlo, and late that night we all went to meet up there, had a bacchanalian good time and drove back to catch our early-morning flights home.
