Today, friend of Fool’s Gold Riva Starr dropped a free mixtape called Back To The Bass with simple yet strict instructions on Twitter: “NO LAPTOP SPEAKERS PLEEZ!”

Grab it here — just click the arrow on the right of the Soundcloud player.

I really like the mix, it’s full of that Made To Play / Dirtybird style of cooky bass music. In fact, around the 54 minute mark, you’ll hear the Martin Brothers remix for Kicks Like A Mule’s upcoming FG release, “Funky 4″.

Speaking of free mixtapes, mine is coming on Monday!

Riva Starr klezmer video!

August 12th, 2009

Our buddy Riva Starr is a man of many hats, and one of his current stylistic endeavors has been klez-tech. I did a gig with him in May and on the car ride from London he played me his entire klez-tech album. Here’s the video for the single, “I Was Drunk”.

Wait till you hear the remix that Riva did for the upcoming Malente single on Fool’s Gold. You know I like those half-bar disco loops!
