Around The World Pt.34: Summer 2011

Hi internet! I feel like writing again. Will you humor me and read my musings? Even in this “click-through” age, can I still write more than 500 words? I hope so because it’s helping me kill time on this flight. It’s been a while since I wrote an “Around The World” post, ironically because I’ve been busy going around the world. I’m not even sure where to start, I’ll just take you through highlights of my last couple months of touring. Walk with me.

Fader TV interviews me in Charlotte
Caught up with Fader TV at the B-Live show in Charlotte, spoke about the Kid Sister album and made some blogging promises. WATCH THIS: when I jumped off the table in the opening segment, the whole table tipped over and I had to catch it from falling into the crowd. You can see it for a fraction of a second (0:21).
Fader TV at the B-Live Boston show
Last week I started my run of shows for the Bacardi B-Live tour. Extended fam The Fader interviewed me at the Boston and Philly shows, check it out.

Week 2 of the Infinity +1 tour! After the overall awesomeness of the New York show on the first weekend, I knew it would be smooth sailing for a while. I guess New York has this sort of make-or-break-ness to it. So picking up where we last left off, I took the train to Boston for a show on St-Patrick’s day, last Tuesday. It’s pretty rare that you get to take trains in North America compared to Europe, and it’s such an easier way to travel when the distance isn’t too bad. At Penn Station I was already seeing a bunch of dudes dressed in green, ready to double-fist some brewskis. The potential for obnoxiousness was pretty high, I’d say it was level orange. Arriving in Boston, I went to sound check with Mano and Hollywood Holt who were also performing that night and we realized that the club looked like a big boudoir. Jiggy clubs: another setting where bitchassness is very likely. The more velvet you see, the more likely you are to run into dumbbells. We went to eat a big lobster dinner and came back for the show. I guess it’s a good thing that I hadn’t played Boston in years because in the end I think that brought out my real audience and we beat out the evil forces of jiggy clubs and wasted jocks and had a really fun time! Everything else was a false alarm.

I stayed in New York for most of last week and I went out on the town way more than I usually do. I’m usually a hermit caged away in my laboratory but I guess the tiger got out of said cage, so to speak.

When I wrote last Monday, it was the last day of my 6 week stay in Paris. On that evening I went to have dinner at Guy-Man’s crib. Of course I don’t have any pics… Duh, who has pictures of Daft Punk? It was ill though, and pardon my selfishness but I don’t even really feel little telling stories. I’m too much of a fan, I gotta keep this one in my little mental cabinet. Dude is mad cool and he remembers seeing me DJ at WMC in 1998 when I was 16.

I was supposed to go to Russia a few days ago but I didn’t. Not because I didn’t try. Not because we didn’t plan ahead. Because of a magical establishment called the consulate. I had to go to the Russian consulate in Paris to get my work visa, and since I was doing this in France they actually worked something out with the French embassy in Moscow whereby I was presented as a special guest of the French embassy on an official “mission”. The consulate is 45 minutes away from where I’m staying in Paris and it’s only open from 9am to noon.

I got back to Paris a week ago after CMJ and my body was pretty fed up with all this intercontinental crisscrossing. I was feeling the rigors of incessant pond-hopping so I canceled a few gigs and made a focused effort to rest up, for realz. If you read the previous blogs you’ll know that I was having some serious computer problems. Well, last week is also when shit hit the proverbial fan. Basically I got some major help and got my computer fixed on Monday, got it back on Tuesday and the same thing happened again except worse. Then I figured out that all along I had this evil rabid hard drive that was killing everything it touched.
